GHYC Gulf Series

Published 13:58 on 18 Feb 2020

Race 2 of the GHYC Gulf Series, The Gannet Rock Trophy, Course 3 was set by our Race Management; Start, McKenzie Buoy (P), Shearer Rock Buoy (P), Gulf Buoy (S) to Finish. A fairly even reaching start, most boats opting for an Extra and enjoying the ride to the first mark, some cracking speeds... Conditions: North East 15 knots, and with a reasonable sea to push through after McKenzie Buoy, most boats opted to work the Rangitoto and Motutapu shore side of the tacking cone, as we beat to weather for Shearer Rock, a couple worked the left, including the black E1050, and whilst it felt good, it didn't pay dividends... Planet X, Memphis and Glory Days rounded Shearer Rock to run deep, and whilst Enigma1 rounded the Cardinal Mark before Odyssey, both boats enjoying a tussle either side of rounding Shearer Rock Buoy. the black boat eventually followed Odyssey around the Gulf Buoy to the finish.

Line honours to Planet X, First on Handicap to Memphis, 2nd Glory Days & 3rd Odyssey V, waterline and sailing smarter were the key tenets of the day, whilst also sailing to the crew's collective capacity and capability. A great course, with some great sailing - top Series, our Gulf Series.
