Saturday 5th September saw club yachts back out on the water after the recent Covid restrictions put a hold on our sailing programme, with race 4, the last race in the You Travel Winter Cruising Series getting underway in cool but otherwise lovely early spring weather.

Eight yachts headed away on course one with some close quarter racing out to the yellow Gulf Harbour buoy, the first turning mark

Planet X was first to the mark, but a navigational error by Miles and Sue, well Sue says Sue and Miles just smiled, gave several of the following yachts a bit of a giggle, but more importantly a chance to get in front of them, a very rare opportunity!

The next leg, to the northern Long Bay marine reserve marker was on the wind with some tricky wind shifts and outgoing tide to contend with.

Memphis, very cleverly, if you were on board her, or just jammy, if you were on the other boats, got to the mark ahead of the fleet and carried that lead onto the finish.

Glory Days and Fast Lane enjoyed some close racing until the reaching leg to the Southern marine reserve marker, where Glory Days showed good reaching speed to pull ahead.

A long flattish run with a bit of broad reaching and a rather large patch of light wind on the next leg to navy buoy saw Glory Days make huge gains on Memphis who where struggling in the lighter downwind conditions, but once around navy buoy the wind came back for a windward leg back to the Yellow Gulf Harbour Buoy and Memphis was able to hold them off.

A very good decision made by the team on Share Delight to go right on the upwind leg to Gulf Harbour Buoy saw them make huge gains on the leaders and get in front of Fastlane.

Patrick and Weili, both Lotus 9.2 owners, pooled their knowledge and ganged up on the rest of the fleet to sail a great race on Satu Lagi, just holding off Richard on Southern Comfort, and took a well deserved podium .

Podium for the day was Satu Lagi, 1st, Shine On 2nd Memphis 3rd

Series result saw Memphis take 1st place Shine On 2nd and Share Delight 3rd

Roll on Summer
