Burnsco Cruising Race 3

20 boats turned out for Burnsco Cruising Race 3, despite a forecast for strong winds. Choppy seas met the boats departing the marina as 11 GHYC boats headed to Arkles Bay, joining the 9 WBC boats for an interesting start with some very close encounters. The predicted SW blew at a steady 20 25 kts providing a long reach to the Rakino channel, where conditions became very gusty on the Motutapu side of the course. The fleet made record time to the finish in Oneroa with all boats completing the course in less than 2 ΒΌ hours.

It was a pleasure to arrive early and enjoy a couple of hours relaxing at anchor before heading ashore for early sundowners and the results. A cool breeze and shady location deterred all but a few from BBQing on the beach.

It was good to see another new boat, Satisfaction, join the fleet and put in a very good performance. Results on corrected time had 5 of the GHYC boats finish within less than a minute timespan, showing some very successful handicapping.

Line Honours: Glory Days

Podium: 1st Synergy 3, 2nd Satu Lagi, 3rd The Selkie

Results of this race, for the first 10 boats in the combined GHYC/WBC fleet, count towards the Interclub Challenge (Waka) Trophy, with GHYC leading the points score to date.
