A forecast indicating breeze building throughout the afternoon & skies that looked very ominous, had the fleet of 22 boats donning their wet weather gear and heading out towards Rangitoto. For the most part the dark skies stayed to the north of the peninsula leaving flat waters and NW, veering Westerly breeze.
As a Weiti Boating Club Race week Evelyn & John set the course, & set the two fleets off. A significant pin-end bias some boats were eager to pull the trigger early, & subsequently were summoned back again with individual recalls, Enigma I weaved her way through the fleet on port to head out to the right. The long upwind legs warranted tactical discussions and manoeuvres reading the skies & shifts as best our sailors could. Plenty of downwind action & some close quarter sailing upon approaching mark roundings & the potential challenges of any extras adding to the mix. Big Kahoona had the swiftest of changes following their sideways boobie manoeuvre on their final downwind leg ... the bigger your sail the less you can get away without being noticed... Rogue takes Line Honours for this week. Finally, back to the WBC with a setting sun over the Wade River for a sausage, some drinks and deliberations.
