Hibiscus Marine Coatings Winter race 10

For the final race of the Winter Series of 2019 we were blessed with champagne conditions. A season with extremely contrasting conditions, today we were presented with blue skies & southerly Force 3 wind. The positive comradely interactions between the two clubs evident on the water & post racing today, more than ever.

Mike Long, RO & his team on Weiti Boating Control set a solid course in the southerly, albeit oscillating at times, breeze for the two fleets. A diminished white fleet set off with a strong clean start from First Priority pushing Kick & Sniper up and Memphis further from the commiteee boat end in clear air. Kick was over the line, prompting a swift return to re- cross upon recall, minimising the impact on their race which proved to be outstanding. Left paid. Right didn't. Sniper and First Priority suffered.

The gold fleet set off with a 10 strong fleet a clean start. The upwind mark was somewhat illusive ... we got close, then didn't, then did, then didn't, then did and charged downwind to repeat the same on the next upwind leg.

Plenty of kites up to and some great footage from a drone piloted by Sam with GHYC - Club Captain Miles Cross helming Olympus as the platform. Topview Photography

A spectacular show no doubt from the shore to behold those beautiful kites and glistening waters.

A big thanks to Kerry Davis from WBC & Gary Drummond from GHYC for coordinating this series sponsored by The Engine Room and Hibiscus Marine Coatings who came down to Weiti Boating club to enjoy the golden sun and share their support of yachting around Whangaparaoa peninsula.
