    Burnsco Cruising Series Race 3

Weiti Boating Club chose the perfect course for an equally perfect Burnsco Cruising race to Te Wharau Bay (Waiheke). Twenty two boats crossed the start line and headed across to Rakino Channel. The 10 knots of N'esterly allowed for a lay through and champagne sailing with flat seas and cloudless blue skies. Both of which greeted all boats at the anchorage and allowed for a refreshing dip for many. The combined clubs then dinghed ashore

Gulf Harbour Marine Twilight Race 4

Flat waters and 6-10knts of warm Northerly breeze set Race 4 off for the 2019-2020 Gulf Harbour Marina Twilight Series this evening. RO Richard Brown selected Course 6 with a downwind start and Port Roundings. Timing the downwind start is always a tricky business, with a split decision for the fleet on whether to cross on starboard or port tack. Starboard tackers crossed first with Planet X & Share Delight hot on their

Taylor & CO Lawyers Ladies Twilight Race 3

Three virgin skippers, five full crews and 18knts of wind made for an exciting and excellent night's sailing for the Taylor and Co Lawyers Ladies Twilight Series Race 3. Course 2 was set by GHYC race management which allowed for plenty of jossling of positions on the upwind legs and only a single spinnaker hoist from Share Delight on the downwind leg. Whilst the lead didn't change from the outset all

Gulf Harbour Marina Twilight Series Race 2

Golden Skies so early in the season for Race 3 of the Gulf Habour Marina 2019-2020 Twilight Series RO Richard Brown selected Course 2 with a starting breeze predominantly from the SW at 13- 18knts and minimal sea-state. Through the evening it was unsettled and eased, so crews had to change their plans for the fluctuating conditions. An all action start with the 10 boat fleet hitting the line confidently, Young Guns were

Taylor & Co. Ladies Twilight Race 2

Race 2 of the Taylor & Co Lawyers Ladies Twilight Series 2019 commenced on Wednesday. It appeared the girls were in store for a light wind drifter to start the series, A stark comparison to a fortnight before with SW 35knts and consequently a cancelled Race 1. As the girls left the marina to refamiliarise themselves with the boats and crew combinations, the Hauraki Gulf was glassy. Race Officer Miles Cross paused for course

Gulf Harbour Marina Twilight Series Race 1

A windy spring has resulted in a delayed start to the Gulf Habour Marina Twilight Series with Race 1 cancelled a fortnight ago. Race 2 commenced this evening in lively conditions. A SSW breeze of 14- 21knts and the odd squall to negotiate kept the 10 of 14 entries on their toes. Race Officer Richard Brown hoisted Y-Flag & selected Course 2 (ABABCA - port roundings) The start-line was contested fairly and with pace

    Burnsco Race 1

A fabulous weekend for the opening cruising weekend and first race of the Burnsco Cruising Series. After the gale force winds of the day before, forecast conditions abated to a strong wind advisory. 20 boats lined up to start, with some opting to reef. Nakoni was late to reach the start line, but fortuitously Weiti Control postponed the start by 10 mins. With the SW wind Weiti made a good choice with course 2 to

    Youth Sailing Programme

Another six students from Whangaparaoa College, all of whom had never sailed before, took to the Huaraki Gulf aboard the historic Steinlager 2 for a circumnavigation around Rangitoto and Motutapu in a very fresh NW'ly on Monday 30 th September.
