COVID-19 Notice to Competitors and Race Management volunteers Level 2


All competitors and RM volunteers must make themselves aware of COVID-19 and the risks involved. Information is available on the COVID website https://www.health.govt.nz/

As a prerequisite to entering, sailing or RM volunteering in a GHYC race, you agree your personal information may be shared with the local Public Health Authorities to enable rapid contact tracing if a participant or volunteer at the event becomes ill with COVID-19 or has been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19

The following precautions to be taken to race / RM volunteer with the GHYC in any races or series:

  • You should not let any person onto your boat who display flu-like or COVID-19 symptoms. They have a responsibility to self-isolate and get Covid-19 tested.
  • Mandatory contact tracing of all crew, this is the responsibility of the boat skipper.
  • Refer NOR/SI's - Safety Regulations
  • Under Level 2 you cannot have more than 10 people on your boat. Gatherings must be restricted to a maximum of 10 people
  • People may participate in team sport and physical activity, including where physical distance cannot be maintained provided other public health measures are in place
  • Wherever practical, you should try and observe the social distancing rules. Space yourself around inside the cabin, cockpits/boat/marina and limit the time in close contact
  • Maintaining good hygiene practices, like regular washing and drying of hands, good cough/sneeze etiquette, turn away and use your elbow and avoiding touching your face. We recommend you have hand sanitiser on the boat and/or your person
  • Onboard, personal gear bags minimised get "dressed" on the dock before departure
  • Allocate one crew for VHF radio calls and monitoring
  • Careful transfer of food and water bottles to avoid cross-contamination
  • Disinfect/wipe/clean handholds, VHF, winches and winch handles and other high usage areas with a sanitiser, leave sheets hanging to dry for 5 x days after use
  • Wear gloves when hosing down equipment and boat if using a shared marina hose
  • Crew to wash their protective sailing gear including gloves and lifejackets at home
  • Have fun out on the water
