February
2010
Will someone please hold me down cos I
need to go and see where the Xmas holidays went to. Is it me or was
that the fastest yet??! Mind you the typical February heat and
humidity is here and that doesn't seem to be leaving too quickly.
LOVE THAT SUNSHINE!
But now that most folks are back at
work (well those of us who aren't retired that is..) there is plenty of racing on
with the mid week races getting their fair share of wind for a change...
(please don't be the kiss of death for the wind now!).
And talking of racing the talking MAY have almost ground to a halt as the
LONG OVERDUE squabble over big boys toys and money (a.k.a. the Americas Cup)
should be underway next week.. Sorry make that "SHOULD'
.... - don't hold your breath. At least the
Louis Vuitton World Series
is here (9-21 march 2010) at the same time as the
Auckland International Boat Show week (10-14 March) so we get to see
some racing in this neck of the woods.
c'mon guys, just get
on with it!!
Talking of racing the guys with the
Radio yachts have had some fun this summer break as the Gulf Harbour Country
Club exercised their rights over the water in the Regency lake and watered
the golf course. The net result was the lake effectively gained a
beach all the way around it and the radio yachties 'enjoyed' EXTREME
difficulty in launching/retrieving yachts! Check out the
pix for evidence.
Talking of the RC guys the Futaba
Trophy race is on again this year on 27 March 2010 and will be held either
at the Regency lake or in the Eastern arm of the Marina now referred to as
Hobbs Wharf -site is wind depending. Go along and have a look - its
great fun - and you can always take your RC yacht away on board your 'big'
one!

Xmas Carols at Kawau 12/13 December
2009
Just had to leave the pix of The
Formula on here for one more month so that all the travellers can get a good
look. This was the weekend with every example of weather in
it bar snow and hurricanes - well just about. First
there was no wind and a delayed start and then there was loads of it and a
fast race with the rain galloping along for fun. See the
Newsletter for
more details.
The highlight was the unique parking
achieved by the Commodore no less (example picture to the right) who really
should have used the opportunity to clean the bottom of the boat whilst it
was there!
It appears that GHYC Commodores have a
penchant for beach parking...?!
