PROTECTING OUR MARINE ENVIRONMENT - WINTER SPEAKER SERIES
Everyone is welcome to join us and learn how New Zealand is protecting its marine environment with Dimitri Colella, Senior Marine Biosecurity Advisor at Auckland Council. Dimitri will provide an overview of our marine biosecurity system, along with the latest updates on pest species, the hull surveillance program, hull cleaning and the use of tidal grids.

Anyone who has a boat or other watercraft, or just enjoys our marine environment is encouraged to come along, with time at the end to answer all your questions
Some of the topics covered will include:
- The purpose of marine biosecurity
- How marine biosecurity works in NZ. from MPI border security, at our regional level and then finally at the boatie level.
- Declared marine pest species in the Auckland region, pest management plan and an update on the caulerpa situation.
- Hull surveillance programme; purpose, process, outcomes, and compliance and how this may affect boat owners..
- Hull cleaning & ramp grooming guidelines and maximising time between haul outs, including tidal grid usage.
