Cruising

The cruising activities of Gulf Harbour Yacht Club are an important part of the club's calendar. For many people it is what owning a boat is all about and is something that GHYC actively encourages. Both yacht and launch owners enjoy the feeling of freedom that getting 'away from the madding crowd' gives to those aboard. Sometimes it is an isolated anchorage; at other times it is meeting up with friends in one of those splendid locations around the coast. These times are the lifeblood of the cruising boatie.

To further encourage cruising GHYC organises a series of weekends away that begin with a cruising race to a destination within a reasonable sail from Gulf Harbour. Cruising races involve minimal or no windward sailing and no extras (spinnakers or gennakers) can be used. The races are designed for short-handed sailing and to give some competition to those who want it on the way to the club's destination.

However, to be part of these weekends away you do not need to race, nor do you have to depart at the same time or even the same day. Just turn up at the designated beach in your yacht or launch, and join in the early evening BBQ on shore.

The first one is usually at Labour Weekend; the Christmas Cruise and singalong is always popular; and at Easter we also have the annual petanque competition.

There is strong support for all the cruising weekends so come along and join in.
