Blind Sailing NZ
Blind Sailing can be both a hobby and a sport. The main idea is to expand and further the opportunities for visually impaired people competing in the sport of sailing. Blind Sailing is established on trust and interdependency among crew members, and as such, this also improves how blind people communicate with the rest of society, and vice versa.
If you know someone who is legally blind or visually impaired, you may want to introduce them to blind sailing. There are local organizations who provide blind people education in the skills necessary to sail and cruise sailboats. One can choose from either recreational sailing or sailing competition. This is also a good avenue to meet people and forge friendships. As long as one has the passion for water and sailing, then blindness should not be an impediment in this area. There are a lot of opportunities to learn the art and science of sailing. Contact your local organization now!
