The first race of the Burnsco Summer Cruising Series got underway on Saturday under brilliant sunshine with 14 boats competing on the course. Race officer, John Butcher, set Course 3 with the intention of making best use of the forecasted light eastly winds. However, the winds didn't quite eventuate as hoped, and two hours into the race the decision was made to shorten the course to ensure all boats completed the course within the time limits. Ironically, the sea breeze did kick in during the upwind leg back to Gulf Harbour Yellow buoy which enabled some speed to be gained. However, its visit was short and sweet, confirming the shortened course was the best result for everyone.
