Barfoot and Thompson Series Race 2

Race 2 of the Barfoot and Thompson GHYC- WBC combined Double-Handed Series set off this morning into light airs to the south.

Taking into consideration a building SW breeze, Race Control set the fleet off with Course 5 to leave Rangitoto to Port, & additionally hoisted the diagonally stripy yellow and red Y -flag for crews to don their life-jackets.

By the time the fleet was down to Takapuna the fleet had split itself into 2; those who managed to keep their height and make the leg in one board and those who had to put an extra board in to clear the rocks off Rangitoto lighthouse.

Around the bottom of Rangitoto, the fleet experienced a short shower to wash the decks but not with too much wind within the squall. Following the deluge the airs settled allowing for several extras to be hoisted. Memphis, First Priority and either Fast Lane or C McGuire chose spinnakers whilst Enigma kept slightly hotter angles with their extra.

Rounding the North East corner of Mototapu Planet X set a solid pace out the front & back across the bay and took line honours with approximately 3.5hours racing. Next home was the Memphis boys with a strong performance.

First Priority included the yellow GH mark this race to cross the line behind Enigma 1, followed by a gap for the next four who kept in touch with each other. Fast Lane and C McGuire came in close with Meister following in the freshening breeze. One more yacht I've missed (sorry for that !) finished shortly after !

A stunning, yet at times physically demanding & busy race out on First Priority - with some impressive scenery and weather on our doorstep - with 6 - 22 knots experienced through the day. A top speed from Enigma 1 of 11.9 knots around the south of Mototapu allows Sarah to claim bragging rights for top speed.
