Burnsco Cruising Series - Race 7

Last Sunday saw seven yachts start race seven of the Burnsco Summer Cruising Series, from Kawau Island back to Gulf Harbour. A GPS start at 11.00 am in 13 to 15 knots of SE wind had the boats of to a fast start, although a couple of skippers miss-judged the time it took to get to the start line, and as a result were somewhat late. Hard on the wind, no one was able to lay through to Tiri passage which meant some interesting tactics were needed in the shifting breeze. Memphis was looking strong as the windward boat but was undone by a cruel windshift which enabled Planet X and a Glory Days to tack way to leeward and then lift out to cross well in front, darn! Provision had been made to shorten the course at Navy Buoy but the wind was holding and the fleet still had a good breeze when the first five boats past navy Buoy. Unfortunately by the time those first five finished of Gulf Harbour the wind was quickly dropping leaving the last two boats with no wind, eventually leading to them withdrawing from the race

Line honours went to Planet X

Podium: 1st Toyshop; 2nd Glory Days; 3rd Memphis

Thanks again to Mike and Burnsco for their support of the series. One more race in the series left, race 8 at Easter, which of course features the annual Pétanque challenge. Memphis will not be there for the last race so Graeme and Lyn Brown, Toronui will be coordinating the race and Pétanque.
