Course 18 was selected for Race 1 of the AA Solar Gulf Series. This allowed the fleet to get around & back for the Prada Cup racing & before the breeze dropped away.

Memphis won the line leaving the fleet in her wake, but all close enough, in the light airs, to shake hands with Richard Brown (RO) & his crew on Olympus. A beat up to Long Bay northern marker involved working the wind shifts with Planet X rounding first with Big Kahoona closing in.

Working upwind to round the Southern Long Bay mark gave the tacticians onboard a choice: to a gamble to stay close to the land or take a chance for steadier breeze further out. It was during this stage that Glory Days took a place from Memphis resulting in a neck and neck downwind drift towards the Gulf Harbour mark. The final downwind leg had the symmetrical kites taking the rhumb line & the asymmetricals a slightly more scenic route. Fast Lane found their groove for the final leg pipping Glory Days 200m from the finish line.

Line Honours : Planet X

Podium positions : 1st Memphis, 2nd Fastlane, 3rd Planet X
