Burnsco Race 1
Published 09:40 on 30 Oct 2019
A fabulous weekend for the opening cruising weekend and first race of the Burnsco Cruising Series. After the gale force winds of the day before, forecast conditions abated to a strong wind advisory. 20 boats lined up to start, with some opting to reef. Nakoni was late to reach the start line, but fortuitously Weiti Control postponed the start by 10 mins. With the SW wind Weiti made a good choice with course 2 to Kawau via Motuora and Beehive. A boisterous sea and a run to Tiri, a gybe and reach around the back of Motuora and a run to Beehive and a reach to the finish off Elizabeth Point, with Planet X finishing in under two hours and other leading boats finishing a few minutes over 2 hours, so a very quick race. Sunny and calm conditions for a very pleasant social time and Prize giving at Mansion House followed. 1st Winslow, 2nd Mayflower, 3rd Raiatea. Line Planet X. Thanks to Weiti start boat and control.
