Race 8 of the Hibiscus Marine Coatings / The Engine Room Combined Weiti / GHYC winter Series 2019.

Windy - again ! This time from the South-West with a base of 20knts peaking at 30knts towards the end of the race. However, despite the fresh winds, the rains stayed away during the race and flat waters in the space between the two clubs gave great conditions.

The white fleet set off at pace, with two individually recalled. Azure, proving listening to their radio & making a swift retreat enables them to stay in amongst the action. The two Elliot 1050's match raced the entire course with Sniper pipping Kick on the finish line. Big Kahoonas had a clear run ahead of the fleet & despite not flying extras kept clear ahead.

Memphis & First Priority had some close racing with slightly differing timings when to put in a slab reef & which extras to fly. Memphis pulled ahead on the final upwind leg, with the Farr 1020's also passing First Priority whilst they resolved a back-stay issue.

Only a few extras were hoisted on the downwind leg but saw the fleet choosing to Goose-Wing their way to the bottom mark.

A slightly diminished fleet with 16 boats on the water this week for the two fleets with two races remaining in this series. Feel free to add more stories, (or corrections) below of your action on the water !

A final shout out to Gold Fleet boat Affinity, who single-handed navigated the course today to come in with first place - one to watch for the Barfoot & Thompson short-handed Summer Series !

Thanks to Evelyn & her crew on Weiti Boat Control for coordinating another quality day on the water.
